Balancing Act

My first semester as a graduate student has flown by. I am teaching 65 students in three classes. I grade 130 papers and create three quizzes each week in addition to my course work as a first semester grad student. I am working on a project in Applied Regression, and a project in Advanced Mathematical Modeling -- I am modeling a tornado!! It's a lot of fun. It's very cool how the math, physics, and technology may eventually allow me to understand the dynamics of a tornado. I admit to being exhausted and a bit frazzled, but I love what I do. My students are amazing and my work is fun and interesting.

It has been tough juggling housework, my teaching obligations, my course work, my family and social obligations, and my titleholder responsibilities this semester but I know that all of this will be worth it. I'm learning how to better manage my time and I know that skill will come in handy when I'm a mom someday.

I've also made a few appearances as Mrs. Tulsa in the past few months! I judged the Ms. Senior Oklahoma pageant, and I attended the Miss Creek County (MAO) and Miss Tulsa State Fair (MAO) pageants. I met with Stacey Berry of the Sapulpa Parent Education Program to discuss fundraising for SPEP and our shared goals of helping children and families through educating parents. I took a short break from leading PREP workshops in order to focus on my studies, but I plan to get back into the swing of things next semester!

Well, I better run! I have a lot to do today! God bless!

About My Blog

Welcome! This blog is about my year of service as Mrs. Tulsa and my preparation for the Mrs. Oklahoma America pageant. My blog includes posts about
  • developments in my preparation
  • tips for pageant contestants
  • journal entries about my experiences at my appearances and service events, and
  • articles for parents, teachers, and kids about relationships, marriage, and handling divorce.
All articles about pageantry and articles related to marriage and family are listed and linked on the side bar.

Please feel free to send me an email if you have any questions about marriage and family that you would like me to answer here. I admit that I am biased toward marriage and have a tendency to think about what is best for the kids before I think about what is comfortable or easy for mom and dad. You see, I don't know what it's like to be a divorcing parent -- but I will never forget what it was like to be a 13-year-old child of divorce. I have been studying marriage and family and how to help children of divorce for the last seven years. Feel free to email me at SashaMTownsend@gmail.com. I would love to hear from you!
